Malawi beat South Africa, Lesotho in Sarpcco games

Malawi teams participating at the Sarpcco games in Swaziland started on a brighter note with both football and netball teams winning their first games.
Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (Sarpcco) is body of police services from all the 14 Sadc countries.
The Malawi football team beat Lesotho 1-0 through Stuart Mbungwe whereas the netball team beat South Africa 48-24.

The netball team, success, however, was short-lived as they went down to Zambia in their second game. The volleyball team too lost to DR Congo in their first game.
According to the Times of Swaziland hosts started on a bad note losing 0-1 in women football against South Africa.
Gabriel Chirwa, manager of the Malawi football team, said things are looking bright so far.
“It is true we have done well in football and netball in our first games. We are in good shape and hoping for the best in the games to come. We hope the netball team will recover and win their remaining games,” said Chirwa from Lobamba, Swaziland.
As we went to press, the Malawi football team was playing Swaziland in their second match, whereas the netball team were playing Namibia.
Mary Banya is the leading goal attacker for the Malawi netball team with an 80 percent shooting accuracy. meanwhile the Malawi netball team yesterday beat Namibia by 55 to 32.
Malawi Police Service (MPS) Senior Deputy Commissioner Richard Luhanga said Malawi has sent 81 athletes to the Games to participate in sports disciplines such as football, netball, darts, volleyball,  chess, field and track events.
“We are aiming for gold in all the sports disciplines and we are taking very strong teams in all the sports disciplines.
“Most of the players in netball and football are from the Eagles Sisters Club and Blue Eagle Football Club respectively. It is important that we do well this time around,” said Luhanga.
